After Phil Asher rocked the Back II Life House-hold last week to its very foundations, we entrust this weeks party to another soldier of the London Underground, the much loved and respected Rap Saunders. Best known as the, errr, friendly face behind the counter at London's seminal Black Market Records store, Rap is a phenominal DJ with a very loyal following. You can expect deep, late night grooves as Rap works the floor until each and every dancer is feelin his vibe. As always your trusty residents Spin Doctor, Dom Versell and of course Jazzie B will be throwing down the grooves from the record boxes of Soul, Funk, Hip-Hop, Disco, Boogie and House.
Catch the early dance workshop and free entry before 7pm
With Soul II Soul celebrating 25 years since their first parties it was inevitable that life's cyclical system would bring things all the way round. Soul II Soul's legendary weekly Sundays at The Africa Centre was the creative spark that fused the sounds of Soul, Reggae, Hip-Hop and House that has defined everything that British dance music has created since.
Updating the philosophy of "a happy face, a thumping bass for a loving race" Soul II Soul have teamed up with two of London's other strongest party providers to create Back II Life. Designed to be more than the sum of it's parts and way more than just a regular club night. Bringing together different promoters and DJs is intended to fuse London's disparate tribes to come together under the banner of dance to create a scene of like minded people with a love of good music no matter the genre. With the added aspects of visual arts, good food, live performance and free membership for those who come to any of the first month's events this will be the only place to be on a Sunday afternoon, evening, night or Monday morning.
Jazzie B is as much loved as he is respected by everyone on the international music scene. Having started DJing back in 1977 he has gone on to score No.1 hits on both sides of the Atlantic, receive an OBE, an Ivor Novello award and the keys of to no less than seven American cities. However none of this success has gone to his head or slowed him down. As busy now as he has ever been with his BBC London 94.9 radio show and DJ gigs throughout the UK and the world this new project has as much in common with his many community projects as it does his business ventures. His determination to create a spiritually enhancing event for everyone that comes through the door that will in turn create a scene that develops into a community means that Back II Life is already destined for great things.
Spin Doctor knows a good idea when he hears one so the opportunity to join forces with his good friend Jazzie B on this new project was too much to resist. As the driving force and sole resident of The Doctor's Orders Spin Doctor has been responsible for the creation and soundtrack of many incredible events throughout the capital over the last few years. Driven by strong sense of family and community, as his regular fundraising
J-Dilla tribute nights and eight siblings attest, Spin jumped at this chance to create something new and fresh for London.
Dominic Versell knows all about the community that is the house music industry through his role as label boss of Trippin' Records. As well rounded DJ as he is human being Dominic's sense of what a club should be is based on New York's legendary Shelter parties that sprang out of the incredible scene that was the Paradise Garage. With this as his starting point there is no way his contribution to Back II Life will do anything but push it in the right direction.
