It's been 25 years since Soul II Soul's Africa Centre Sundays redefined club culture for an entire generation. Despite this length of time Jazzie B is still as active and passionate about throwing great parties as he has ever been. Joined by good friend and London's busiest DJ / Promoter Spin Doctor they have decided that what London really needs is a refreshingly honest look back at the soul of the 1980's.
"Every time I spin 80's soul tracks in one of my sets people go nuts and I am always asked where they can go to hear is regularly so we are bowing to public demand by bringing it Back II Boogie" - Spin Doctor
Although many see the 1970's as the golden age of soul the developments both technically both in instruments themselves and the way they could be recorded in the 1980's made the soul records of the day some of the freshest ever recorded and are incredible records to party to, especially on a system like that at East Village.
"The sonics of those boogie tracks make them so club friendly. They did always got the people dancing at the Africa Centre and I can't wait to dust them off again." - Jazzie B
Playing records and making records since 1977, Jazzie is one of the few true international legends of modern soul music. With Soul II Soul he's scored Number One hits all over the world; has won two Grammies and an Ivor Novello award; and received an OBE and the keys to no less than seven American cities - some states even celebrate a Soul II Soul Day. As busy now as he's ever been, deejaying all over the world, and with a BBC London 94.9 radio show, Back II Boogie presents him with an opportunity to spin the records that played such a large part in his early success on the sound system scene.
Spin Doctor the driving force behind The Doctor's Orders Spin has been promoting and rocking parties in London for longer than he might care to mention and while best known for his dedication to Hip-Hop his passion for soul of all kinds in undoubted and he is more than ready and willing to show the extent of his collection on this new night.
Johnny Reckless is the premier collector of boogie and disco in London, if not the UK. Having spent 20+ years behind the counters of London's best record stores and behind the decks of London's best clubs there is nothing you can tell this man about 80's soul music. You can expect to hear an incredible selection of tracks you know and love, or will never have heard and love, all of which will be played on nothing but original pressing while Johnny is doing his thing.
Ben Waist has quietly been making a name for himself on the soulful club scene for a while now. Having played at successful promotions & clubs including Bounce at Bar Rumba, Whats Good, Madame Jojo's & Rollerdisco along side the likes of J Rocc (Beat Junkies) & Keb Darge, Ben is sure to be a great addition to the Back II Boogie line up. Bringing a fresh ear to serious Boogie records recorded while he was still in short trousers, his warm up sets are sure to set the mood for a great Sunday night on the dance-floor
